Taking Jesus at His Word

Hi friends!

I wanted to take a quick moment to share a little glimpse into what God has been teaching me lately. Last week, I read this passage from John 4:49-53, which says:

"The royal official said [to Jesus], 'Sir, come down before my child dies.'

‘Go,’ Jesus replied, 'your son will live.'

The man took Jesus at his word and departed. While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, 'Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.’

Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, 'Your son will live.’ So he and his whole household believed."

In this chapter we see the man was asking Jesus to follow him back to his town of Capernaum, hoping He would heal his dying son. What’s notable here is that Jesus didn’t follow the man’s exact request, but He does give the man His word, "your son will live.” We’re told, “the man took Jesus at his word and departed.” He had faith in God’s plan, and Christ delivered on His word, his son was healed!

Friends, you and I have God’s Word through the Bible. In it, we see things like:

“Do not fear, for I am with you…” (Isaiah 41:10) - You can rest secure. He is always with you.

"Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” (John 20:21) - He will guide you.

"Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58) - He sees all the work you’re doing!

“My grace is sufficient for you.” (2 Corinthians 12:9) - No matter how many wrong turns you take, His grace will follow you. It will never run out.

We see affirmations of His love and grace for us over and over. So no matter what requests we present, we can have faith and take hope from His Word! He may not always respond in the exact way we ask for, but we can always trust that His plan is the best because He loves us.

I want to leave y’all with this verse from Isaiah 40:8 - "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

With so much love,

Selena
